The House of Red on White, 2004, seven room installation, 50‘ x 60‘ x 20’, establishing view, Coleman Art Center, York, AL
An interactive community based project where oral histories/folktales of the paranormal were collected by the artist by interviewing members of the community and then realized as site-specific sound and sculpture installations in each room of the house.
The folktales served as a metaphor with the work for York’s troubled racial history. Each of the seven rooms contained a separate installation that was derived from folktale collected by the artist. The final room of the installation was the master bedroom which contained the “Stars and Bars” of the Alabama state flag.
